Photograpic Competition – Terms and Conditions

Thank you for taking part in the North Dorset Trailway Network’s Autumn on the Trailway Photography Competition. These terms explain who can enter, how photographs will be judged and how entries and personal information may be used.

SEND YOUR ENTRY TO [email protected]

1 Who can enter

The competition is free to enter and is open to amateur photographers in three categories:

• Children – under 12
• Young people – aged 12 to 15
• Adults – aged 16 and over

Professional photographers are not eligible to enter.

Entrants under 16 must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian. A parent or guardian must submit the photograph on their behalf or confirm their permission when the entry is submitted.

2 The photograph

Photographs must have been taken on, or clearly relate to, the North Dorset Trailway and should capture what the Trailway means to the entrant. Subjects might include scenery, wildlife, plants and nature, walking, cycling, horse riding, wheelchair or mobility-aid use, dogs, friends and family, or a favourite or unusual moment.

Each photograph must be the entrant’s own original work. AI-generated images and photographs that have been materially altered using AI or other digital tools are not permitted. Basic adjustments such as cropping, exposure, contrast, colour balance and sharpening are allowed, provided they do not add or remove significant elements or misrepresent the scene.

3 People in your photograph

If a photograph contains identifiable people, the entrant must have their permission for the photograph to be entered and potentially published. Where an identifiable child or young person under 16 appears, permission must have been obtained from their parent or legal guardian.

Please take particular care when photographing other people using the Trailway.

4 How to enter

Photographs can be:

• Shared in the comments on the competition post on the North Dorset Trailway Network Facebook page; or
• Emailed to [email protected]

Every entry must include:

• The entrant’s name
• A short caption or description of the photograph
• A contact email address
• For entrants under 16, the entrant’s age and the name and contact details of the parent or guardian giving permission

For an entry shared on Facebook, contact details should be sent privately by email and must not be posted publicly. A child under 16 should not post an entry or personal information themselves.

Closing date: 1 November 2026

By submitting a photograph, the entrant confirms that they have read and agree to these terms. For an entrant under 16, the parent or guardian submitting or approving the entry confirms their agreement.

5 Judging and prizes

Entries will be judged on creativity, originality and how well they capture the spirit of the North Dorset Trailway. The judging panel will include at least one person who is independent of NDTN. The judges’ decision will be final.

There will be one winning photograph and a prize in each category. Prizes have been kindly provided by Wessex Photo and The Crown, Marnhull. Prize details are shown on the competition page and no cash alternative is available.

Winners will be contacted using the details provided and may be announced on the NDTN website and Facebook page. NDTN reserves the right not to accept or publish an entry that it considers inappropriate or unsuitable.

6 Copyright and use of photographs

Copyright remains with the photographer. By entering, the photographer – or the parent or guardian on behalf of an entrant under 16 – gives NDTN non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to reproduce and publish the submitted photograph in connection with the competition and future promotion of the North Dorset Trailway.

This may include use on:

• The NDTN website and social media
• NDTN newsletters
• Displays and exhibitions
• Printed and digital promotional material

NDTN may crop or resize a photograph to suit a particular layout but will not materially alter it. Wherever reasonably practical, NDTN will credit the photographer. NDTN will not sell an entrant’s photograph to a third party.

To withdraw permission for future use, email [email protected]. Material already printed, distributed or published may not be capable of being recalled.

7 Personal information

Names, email addresses and other contact details supplied with entries will be used only to administer the competition, contact winners and manage the permissions described in these terms. Personal contact details will not be published or shared with third parties for marketing purposes and will be kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for these purposes.

For an entrant under 16, do not supply the child’s own contact details; provide the contact details of their parent or guardian instead. Questions about personal information can be sent to [email protected].

8 Closing date and changes

Entries must be received by 1 November 2026. Entries received after this date will not be considered.

NDTN may amend or cancel the competition only where circumstances beyond its reasonable control make this necessary. Any change will be published on the NDTN website and Facebook page.
